About Me

As a senior science leader in government and non-government organizations my focus was on addressing food security, agricultural development in the global south, environmental impact of food production, climate change and energy systems. Until recently, I was International Rice Research Institute's (IRRI) Regional Director for Asia where my role was to represent IRRI’s interests in the region, and coordinate and have strategic oversight of IRRI’s activities. I acted as the chief spokesperson for IRRI in Asia interacting with a wide range of national and international partners, investors and donors to seek out new opportunities for IRRI’s research, including philanthropic fundraising and public-private sector partnerships.

Prior to that I was Director of the Research Councils UK India Office in New Delhi. Earlier, as part of the Chief Scientist’s Group at the UK’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, I managed the UK Government's research-to-policy programs on food safety, nutrition, and environmental contamination of food. I was a senior policymaker in the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs leading work on environmental impact of food production, climate change and food security. I then became Head of Science at the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change with the responsibility for providing the evidence base for the UK Government's position in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations.

Now, as a freelance consultant, I am excited to offer my expertise to organizations seeking to achieve their sustainability goals and make a positive impact on the world. My consultancy services encompass expert research and strategic guidance in sustainable development for energy, food, land, and water systems. I am dedicated to helping organizations navigate the complex landscape of sustainability, develop vibrant international research for development partnerships that drive innovation, foster collaboration and implement strategies that drive lasting positive change.

I hold a PhD in Chemistry from University College London, MSc from the University of Toronto and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Manchester. I have also been called to the English Bar.
